Happy 2014!

Happy New Year everyone! I am so happy to say that I am bringing in this year with a beautiful, healthy baby niece, and a sweet sweet puppy!  (You’ll be meeting him very soon).

I am so looking forward to 2014. As many of you know, I will be getting married this year, so I will start off the year with some major wedding missions! (Yes, I’m procrastinating). I am also thrilled to see how we will take the Women Empowered program to the next level in 2014. We are teaching and certifying instructors for this program at Air Force bases across the country, and are continuing to share this program with the world!

I wanted to take a minute to reflect on the life of Chris Kyle, who was devastatingly murdered yesterday while attending a charity event at a gun range in North Texas.

He was not only an American hero during the time that he served on the front lines as a Navy Seal and the deadliest sniper in U.S. Military history, but he also dedicated his life post-military to fundraising for veteran’s charities and assisting wounded warriors. Chris saved countless lives, and is an inspiration to so many.

On September 29, 2011 a woman was sexually assaulted near UCLA in Los Angeles. The Daily Breeze article from 9/29/11 detailed the accounts of the assault:

The attack on Strathmore Avenue at Levering Avenue occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday as the unidentified woman was walking west and listening to music, according to UCLA police. A sunburned, roughly 6-foot-1-inch man followed her about 50 feet, grabbed her by the waist and dragged her into a 10- or 15-year-old white Honda Civic, where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

The woman eventually was able to get away from the man, who drove off. He was described as heavily built with short brown hair, and was wearing beige athletic shorts, white shoes and a black cotton T-shirt with “Nike” on it.

Anyone with information was asked to call campus police at (310) 794- 5824. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

Sexual assault is a devastating problem that occurs worldwide, and I cannot stress enough the importance of having an action plan, and equipping yourself with the knowledge of how to respond in the event of an attack.

Many of you have asked what music I like to workout to. Truthfully, my music playlist changes based on the workout I’m doing. Music I listen to during a run on the beach is different from a weight-lifting gym workout, which is different from a cardio workout. I find the most important playlist for me is a good cardio workout playlist, because I find these workouts to be the least mentally stimulating for me.

So here is a sample of one of my Cardio Workout Playlists:

Take Over Control – AfroJack
Run the World (Girls) – Beyonce
Gimme Dat – Ciara
Get Up! (Feat. Skrillex) – Korn
Swagga Like Us (Jay-Z & T.I. feat. Kanye West and Lil Wayne)
Danza Kuduro – Don Omar & Lucenzo
Power – Kanye West
Stereo Love – Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina
Bon, Bon – Pitbull
Crawl – Kings of Leon
All of the Lights – Kanye West feat. Rihanna
Step Into a World – KRS One
Firework – Katy Perry
Knockout – Lil Wayne & Nicki Minaj
More – Usher
Jigga What/Faint – Jay-Z & Linkin Park
Shake it – Metro Station
Rockstar 101 – Rihanna feat. Slash
Good Life – One Republic
OMG – Usher feat. Will.I.Am
She Wants to Move – NERD (The Neptunes)

Ok, I’m inspired. Off to a cardio session.
