I had the fun privilege of working with high school women last week at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, statistics indicate that 1 in 4 women from high school to college age will experience a sexual assault. Annia Forte, a dedicated student at the Gracie Academy and teacher at Crenshaw High School, helped us bring the Women Empowered self-defense program to the school, free of charge for the school. It was a fun evening, the girls learned a ton, and everyone had a great time! Thanks to our Gracie Academy students and assistant instructors who dedicated their time to helping these young women learn some self-defense and boundary setting principles. Our hope is that we can bring this to the school, and many others, as an after school program!
Eve was nominated by Beth Phoenix for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to support ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) research. She, in turn, nominates her husband, Rener Gracie, her brother, Phillip Torres, and her frenemy, Maryse Ouellete. They have 24 hours to complete this challenge and/or donate money to ALSA.org!
Here’s your chance to win a self-defense class for your entire family with me and the Gracie Brothers! The winner will also receive one month of free jiu-jitsu training for you or your family at the Gracie Academy (Torrance location or Beverly Hills location), as well as one autographed Gracie program Instructional DVD set of your choice.

Last week Rener and I had to go to the Cayman Islands for jiu-jitsu seminars.
Ok… who am I fooling, it was the best possible “work” trip I could ever imagine! The Bootcamp Grand Cayman, a new Gracie Certified Training center run by Ronnie Hughes and owned by Dax Foster and the Foster family, brought us out to do some awesome kick-off seminars!
Grandmaster Helio Gracie was born October 1st, 1913. This October, we celebrated 100 years of Helio Gracie, and people from around the world gathered for the HELIO 100 Ceremony. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Helio is accredited with creating what is now known as Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. He was a small, frail man who modified the Japanese jiu-jitsu techniques practiced by his brothers so that he could do them with his weak physique. What resulted was a system of self-defense that relied on leverage, technique, and timing rather than strength, speed, and flexibility. He then began to test his jiu-jitsu by challenging every opponent imaginable. To learn more about the history of Helio Gracie and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, click here.
Not only did we celebrate the creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, but we celebrated a man who revolutionized the way many thought about health, diet, and family. I am so proud to see his way of life and his teachings live on through his grandchildren, and specifically his grandson, my fiance, Rener Gracie. For Helio Gracie’s contribution to the self-defense system that changed the way I look at the world and my healthy and vibrant lifestyle, I am forever grateful!
Here is a video from the event, as well as some star studded photos:
Rener and I are thrilled to share that finally, a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Certified Training Center has been established in the Cayman Islands and to kick things off, we’ll be teaching three seminars at the new location!
There will be one Gracie Combatives seminar, one Gracie Bullyproof Seminar, and one Women Empowered seminar. All three seminars are intended for first-time jiu-jitsu students and absolutely no experience is necessary to participate. Details are below and space is VERY limited so be sure to save your spot well in advance!
See you there!
